Avery Galleries is pleased to return to New York with a new gallery space opening on Wednesday, October 30^th. Our inaugural exhibition at 14 E. 60^th Street—Avery Galleries: A Fresh Perspective—is a thoughtfully curated and invigorating selection of works from the 19^th century to the present.

Our current gallery exhibition showcases some truly extraordinary examples of American art from the early to mid-20th century, which highlight the stylistic diversity of the country's artists during this period. The magnificent Childe Hassam of the Isles of Shoals is a tour-de-force of American Impressionism, while the John Marin watercolor hanging nearby, painted less than forty years later, anticipates the advent of Abstract Expressionism.
Although our New York gallery space presents a wide-ranging display of American art, our inaugural exhibition has a special focus on early American Modernism. This large landscape by Allen Tucker is a remarkable painting which demonstrates one artist's move away from an impressionist style to a more modern bolder approach, inspired by the art of Vincent van Gogh. On the adjacent wall, the small but powerful watercolor by Arthur Dove, titled Italy Goes to War, is a masterful example of pure abstraction in American art.
