A Century of American Painting

-

Avery Galleries is delighted to announce its fall 2014 exhibition, A Century of American Painting. We organized the show and catalogue around an illustrated timeline of notable events in American history. Beginning with a luminous landscape by Albert Bierstadt from around 1857 and ending with a dynamic abstract painting of apple blossoms by John Marin from 1952, the timeline takes the viewer through 100 years and illuminates how the works of art fit into a broader historical continuum. What is most fascinating to us is how American art evolved with the nation, sometimes in step with events and sometimes in spite of them. Please join us for the opening reception on Friday, December 5 from 6-9pm.
