1864: Born in Chicago. Little is know of his early career. He is largely self-taught; 1918: Took first trip to Cape Ann. Settled in a studio in Rockport on Atlantic Avenue. Began accompanying fishermen on their trips, where he would observe, sketch, and paint; 1921: Helped establish Rockport Art Association. Served as its first president; Throughout his career, exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, the Salmagundi Club, and the New York Watercolor Club; 1931: Died.
