William Glackens 1870-1938
One of this country's great illustrators, William Glackens's masterful draftsmanship was lauded throughout his career. Indeed his good friend and fellow artist Everett Shinn said Glackens was “the greatest draughtsman this country has produced.” The surety of Glackens’s technique, his masterful handling of the medium, and his ability to relate the essence of his subject made him one of the most sought after illustrators from 1899 until 1906. In fact, he gained renown as an illustrator before he did as a painter.
