Biography

Exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, Stephen Scott Young is known as a living master in the American realist tradition. Annually completing around twenty finished paintings, Young pays strident attention to detail through the use of preparatory studies and drawings. In addition to painting, Young has also dedicated his career to the art of etching. His work often touches on themes of family, coming of age, and everyday life in the Bahamas and the coastal United States, particularly Florida, the Carolinas, and Vermont.

Young's work is featured in the permanent collections of several major museums, including the Asian Museum of Watercolor Art, in Haikou, Hainan Province, China, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Greenville County Museum, and the Brandywine River Museum.
