Ships in a Harbor
Like Winslow Homer before him, Whorf found great inspiration in the Bahamian landscape and Ships in a Harbor is a wonderful example from this body of work. The fluid brushwork and extraordinary color deftly captures the landscape and transports the viewer into the scene.
Two of John Whorf's oil paintings have commanded his highest auction records. His oil paintings are more rare than his watercolors and they represent some of his finest and most valuable works. This painting is no exception. The extraordinary image and marvelous execution make it one of the most dynamic paintings by Whorf we have seen.
