Why We Love It

Waugh is known for his majestic seascapes, which depict the powerful movement of the sea as the waves crash into one another. However, he also produced numerous small sketches such as this one, which he probably painted while riding the ferry from New Jersey to New York. With dexterous brushwork and a keen sensitivity to light, Waugh captures the very essence of this scene and presents it with movement and dynamism.

The Value

We purchased this painting along with two other similar studies, all of which are framed identically. Separately or as set, these charming paintings would make excellent additions to any collection.
