Why We Love It

Subtlety is rarely a hallmark of New Hope paintings. Bold energetic brushwork is the more common denominator. Spring Hillside, however, has a quiet, atmospheric serenity that sets it apart. The brushwork is still distinctively New Hope, but the palette is soft, imparting a sense of the coming spring.

The Value

Kenneth Nunamaker was a key artist among the Pennsylvania Impressionists. His long career as a graphic designer influenced the way he organized his painting compositions and choice of color. Any collection of the New Hope school should have one of his works. This particular example is superb and also has a very fine period frame.
