Why We Love It

George Cochran Lambdin is best known for his still life paintings of roses; however, he also painted many other types of flowers, as seen in this stunning painting of nasturtiums. The black lacquer background demonstrates Lambdin’s interest in Asian art and also adds great dramatic effect, making the brilliant red of the flower petals appear even more vibrant by contrast.

The Value

This incredibly rich painting is truly a “little gem” in both size and value. Lambdin’s still life paintings with black backgrounds are some of his best and most collectible, and this work is no exception. The excellent condition and fine period frame only add to its inherent value.
