Stephen Scott Young
(b. 1957)

A contemporary watercolorist, Stephen Scott Young paints the people and scenery of the Bahamas, Florida, and South Carolina. In a diligent, rigorous practice, Young executes an extensive series of preparatory studies for each of the 20 or so finished paintings he completes per year. His tropical subject matter links him to Winslow Homer, but the psychological richness of his images and figures recall Thomas Eakins and Andrew Wyeth.
