1842: Born in Hudson, New York; 1862: Exhibited in Philadelphia; 1865: Settled in New York City and became well-established in the art world there; 1869: Spent the year traveling in Europe; 1871: Elected as an Associate Member of the National Academy of Design; 1884: Became a full Academician at the NAD; 1886; Received a Gold Medal of the American Art Association and the Temple Medal from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; 1900: Won a prize at the Paris Exposition; 1904: Won a prize at the St. Louis Exposition; 1914: Died at the age of 71.
