1859: Born on October 5, in Philadelphia; 1877-82: Studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under Christian Schussele and Thomas Eakins; 1882: Began teaching life drawing and painting at the Denver Academy of Art; 1884: Established portrait studio with his wife Alberta Binford in Los Angeles at the Child’s Grand Opera House; 1894: Exhibited at the Paris Salon, the Royal Academy of British Artists, and the Chamber of Commerce in Los Angeles; 1897-8: Exhibited at Mark Hopkins Art Institute; 1920-4: Served as the official portrait painter of the American Legion in Los Angeles; 1924: Retired to the home of his daughter in Oregon; 1941: Died on December 30, in Costa Mesa, California.
